The Logical Place to Begin

Something that has always bothered me is that the very same people who oppose sex education, funding for family planning and woman’s reproductive rights are the ones who oppose community mental health services, WIC, food stamps, equal education opportunities for the poor and minorities, free medical services for children and funding for foster care.

But they have no problem with capital punishment.

Wouldn’t it make more sense morally, ethically, and financially to help insure that people who don’t want or can’t manage to raise children not have them in the first place?

Oh, but there is adoption…I can hear that argument now. The truth is that people do not adopt enough from the US Foster Care System here or internationally to make that argument float. It just doesn’t work that way.

If we really want to end the orphan, foster care, and adoption crisis, here and worldwide shouldn’t all of our efforts logically begin with pregnancy prevention?

Hear, hear! I agree 100%.
I believe in sex ed totally. I believe that teens should have access to condoms. They will do what we don't really want them to do. Because they are teens if for no other reason. :-) I personally believe also in a womans right to have an abortion. However I have also seen first hand the tremendous lasting pain that this decision caused a family member so I am sort of conflicted on it. At the time, I thought her decison made sense--she was under 18, she had been using substances as had her boyfriend, neither had the means to raise a child. . . etc. There were lots of reasons where on paper it seemed "smart." Yet 20 yrs later this was still a deep and lasting pain she was carrying.

This should be part of the budget talks. Let everybody put their real values right up front.

The other thing that gets me about my political party is that it supports everyone having guns & killing a person through capital punishment but don't kill a baby. It doesn't make sense. I think it's a bit hypocritical. And I'm a Republican.

It is what I call the save ‘em now so they can kill each other or we can do it later policy. Seriously makes no sense to me.

I have always thought we should sterilize everyone at birth, then petition for the right to bring a new person into the world when we have shown we can do a decent job.....

Severe I know, I'm a public educator and spend everyday looking at kids who aren't getting what they need from the people at home......
