I Owe You Nothing

“I owe you nothing!  …You did what you were supposed to do!”  I love this scene from guess who’s coming to dinner, I can so totally relate.  Except for that in my case my parents DID NOT do what they were supposed to do, but expect the gratitude any way.  Oh, well...

I am catching up on some reading, I thought this was an interesting post Adopted children as emotional assets by O Solo Mama

I didn’t have a bad experience in foster care; the problem was that I ended up IN foster Care in the first place! I had two able-bodied well educated upper-middleclass professional parents, one just self absorbed and one so messed up by their own foster care and adoption experiences that she was incapable of parenting.

Until even recently I heard the same thing, not in actual words but reactions and the entitlement she feels to respect. You are taught your whole life in a normal family that you must earn respect to get respect and they lead by example. In an abnormal family you are told you are to earn respect to get respect, unless it's them. Way to go CoCo, got the Potty Poms as I cheer!!
